As a journalist not able to attend NABJ this year, it has really been nice to read all of the online stories about the Vegas confab. I was really impressed with how the writers found stories far beyond Bally’s and interviewed members of the Las Vegas City Council.
From Washington DC to Los Angeles, at a time when diversity inside in many newsrooms has much to be desired, I gained hope today to see my young fresh colleagues do their thing.

I hope that within all of the coverage that something is said about the death of Oakland Post editor and reporter Chauncey Bailey who was gunned down last week just because he was doing his job to uncover waist and fraud in a Muslim bakery in Oakland. Bailey’s tragic demise reminds all of us that this job often comes with a price.

Keep writing my young brothers and sisters because for everyone having a good time Vegas this week there are those of us in newsrooms across the country who are working today with a little more hope because we know that a new generation is not far behind

    hope the recruiters are watching.
